About this place
One way to enjoy Tensui is to order several kinds of boiled dumplings and compare their fillings. The garlic chive and cabbage dumplings come in portions of 6 for 500 yen each. Celery, prawn and sweetcorn are also on the menu; one diner particularly enjoyed the celery dumplings.
A diner described the wrappers as translucent and pleasantly chewy. The filling, by contrast, had occasional crunchy bites, making the difference in texture between wrapper and filling especially memorable. On another visit, someone tried the garlic chive, cabbage and daily shiso varieties in turn, and liked the shiso best. The weekly special is worth considering: on one visit, the filling had been wrapped in a shiso leaf before being enclosed in the dumpling wrapper, giving it a fragrant aroma when bitten.
One diner who ordered a plate of 6 dumplings found them a little larger than typical pan-fried dumplings and substantial enough for lunch. Soy sauce, vinegar, chilli oil and chopped garlic are set out at the table; that diner added plenty of garlic. Soup with 4 dumplings is another option, either with somen noodles for 650 yen or as tom yum kung for 750 yen. It makes a warming accompaniment to a meal centred on dumplings.
Freshly squeezed orange, apple, grapefruit and banana juices are each 450 yen. Pick a few kinds of dumplings and a drink, and enjoy the meal at your own pace.
